Assistant Professor - African and/or Caribbean Francophone Literature

Job Summary

Conduct innovative, independent research and establish an externally funded program in African and/or Caribbean Francophone Literature. Deliver teaching and supervise graduate students across the tri-campus graduate unit while collaborating with the Center for African Studies, the Center for Caribbean Studies, or the Center for Diaspora and Transnational Studies. Submit a research statement, one recent publication, and a teaching dossier containing syllabi and evaluations. Provide a statement of contributions to equity and diversity. Submit recent reference letters by October 15, 2026.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Francophone Literature or in a French-related specialization in Cultural Studies, Media Studies, Gender Studies, or Digital Humanities
  • demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching French language and Francophone studies courses
  • evidence of research excellence demonstrated through a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications that meet high international standards
  • submitted research statement
  • presentations at significant conferences
  • awards and accolades
  • strong endorsements from referees
  • evidence of excellence in teaching
  • commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry
  • teaching accomplishments
  • teaching dossier including required materials
  • evidence of superior performance in other teaching-related activities
  • performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor
  • experience leading successful workshops or seminars
  • student mentorship
  • excellent conference presentations or posters
  • Native or near native fluency in French
  • strong command of English
  • commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • submission of a 1-2 page statement of contributions to equity and diversity
