Job Summary
Assist the Produce manager with all departmental functions, including interviewing, training, and developing staff while establishing a positive work environment. Manage inventory, pricing, and signage to meet margin and labor targets, oversee product sampling, and ensure freshness and quality upon delivery and restocking. Monitor proper rotation of all fresh product and maintain supplies by following department procedures. This union position requires flexible scheduling across mornings, evenings, and weekends, with physical demands including lifting 50 lbs and standing or walking up to eight hours daily. Candidates must have produce and retail customer service experience, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate a passion for natural foods.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in a produce department
- Previous customer service experience in a retail/grocery setting
- Ability to give excellent and consistent customer service
- A passion for unique, fresh food and a team-centered attitude
- Ability to identify quality or freshness of produce by sight or smell
- Good communicator and motivator; able to work well with others and convey enthusiasm
- Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented
- Can train and inspire a diverse group of Team Members to excellence in all aspects of the department
- Knowledge of and appreciation for natural foods
- Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department including morning, evenings, and weekends
