Job Summary
Under the direction of the school principal, the Assistant Principal leads in the absence of the principal and assists in coordinating educational, administrative, supervisory and counseling activities. Responsibilities include developing and monitoring the School Improvement Plan and local budget, planning and supervising student activity programs, guiding students with personal and educational objectives, enforcing discipline under codes, meeting with families, supervising staff and lunchroom/flows, overseeing substitutes, and coordinating testing and professional development. The role expects strong leadership in instructional improvement, data-driven decision making, application of the Danielson Framework, knowledge of CCSS, PBIS and SEL, and active community engagement. Preferred qualifications include bilingual Spanish language capacity and validated endorsements for principal and teacher evaluation, with a track record of leadership in schools and a commitment to closing achievement gaps. The position is based at Greenwood Elementary School in Waukegan, IL, with terms of employment described as 12 months and a salary structure.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Principal Endorsement issued by the Illinois State Board of Education
- Valid Teacher Evaluator Endorsements (Observation Module 1-3, Non-Growth Module 1-4; and Growth Module 1-5)
- 5+ years of successful teaching experience
- 2+ years of instructional leadership experience (assistant principal; curriculum or program coordinator, instructional coach etc.)
