Assistant Pastry Chef

Job Summary
Prepare fresh pastries, cookies, breads, cakes, pies, and ice creams for the Inn, Golf Grille, and private events, tailoring dessert selections to venue style and rotating owner-favorite menu items. Develop weekly dessert menus with detailed allergen descriptions, maintain consistent recipes and portion control to minimize food costs, and ensure proper mis en place and garnishes are available. Assist Executive and Sous Chefs with month-end inventory, conduct Chef Demos for special events, and uphold high sanitation and health safety standards throughout the kitchen. Capable of working extended hours, weekends, and holidays, with physical demands including lifting up to 60 lbs and adapting to temperature changes.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years experience as a pastry chef
- Must have knowledge of all commercial kitchen equipment and tools
- Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends and holidays as necessary
- Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed
- Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice
- Must be able to lift, carry and move objects that weigh up to 60 lbs
- Must be mentally alert and detail oriented with good reasoning skills
- Must be able to adapt to the climate with marked changes in temperature
- Must be able to transport oneself throughout the plantation
- Must have a valid state driver's license
- Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays
- Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment which may be stressful
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited culinary institution preferred
