Job Summary
The Port of Virginia Assistant Operations Manager oversees terminal operations to maintain a safe, productive environment, ensuring OSHA compliance and coordinating with ocean carriers, motor carriers, railroads, ship agents, stevedores, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include ensuring labor on time and in designated areas, managing ILA labor, allocating equipment, tracking performance, enforcing the Terminal Safety Enforcement Program and the collective bargaining agreement, addressing employee relations and disciplinary matters, coordinating incident documentation and safety investigations, and participating in management meetings. The role requires quick decision-making, action planning, strong communication, the ability to supervise diverse teams across shifts (including nights and weekends), and the capability to adapt in a 24/7 operation, with the ability to pass background checks and obtain TWIC.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Experience in transportation or operations
- Clean driving record
- Ability to obtain TWIC
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check
