Job Summary
Assistant Nurse Manager on the ICU/Cardiovascular ICU collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to lead clinical quality, safety, and patient service on the unit. Serves as staff nurse or relief charge nurse as needed, supports the Nurse Manager, coordinates hiring, training, evaluation/counseling and discharge of unit staff, participates in budgeting, and drives unit-based education and quality initiatives (Core Measures, Hospital Acquired Conditions, clinical documentation). Requires BSN, Texas nursing license, CPR, and national certification within one year (or as requirements can be met), plus a minimum of three years of nursing experience. Strong coaching/mentoring, communication, problem solving, adaptability, and teamwork are emphasized for maintaining regulatory readiness and delivering high-quality patient care on a fast-paced, technically complex unit.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
- 3 years of nursing experience required
- Current CPR certification required
- Current license to practice professional nursing in Texas
- National certification in specialty area or will obtain within one year or minimal amount of time that requirements can be met
- Coaching/mentoring skills
- Computer literate and knowledgeable of varied software, knowledge of general keyboarding principles, willing to learn more advanced computer skills
- Consistently follows the Standards of Behavior set by the Methodist Health System
- Demonstrates ability to remain flexible and adaptable to change
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking

- Consults and communicates with Nurse Manager
- In Collaboration with the Nurse Manager:
- Coordinates hiring, training, evaluation/counseling and discharge of assigned unit staff
- Participates in the planning and implementation of the unit budget
- Facilitates the coordination of unit-based strategies for Patient Experience initiatives
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for clinical quality of the unit through routine surveillance to include, but not be limited to: regulatory compliance readiness, documentation (charting) and clinical aspects review with problem identification and resolution
- Assumes responsibility for the coordination and facilitation of unit based education related to the nursing quality care (i.e., Core Measures, Hospital Acquired Conditions, clinical documentation, etc.)
- Responsible for: day to day coaching and mentoring of the staff relative to the Assistant Nurse Manager role; being a role model, real-time feedback and counseling; and providing feedback to the Nurse Manager.
