Job Summary
Conduct clinical assessments and manage admission processes for substance use disorder patients, including verifying diagnoses, coordinating with referral sources, and performing chemical dependency evaluations. Provide routine nursing care, administer medications, and manage emergency situations while independently supervising LPNs and ensuring compliance with New York State OASAS regulations. Deliver patient education on self-administration and lifestyle factors, monitor vital functions and lab reports, and coordinate discharges or transfers. Perform on-call duties as needed and participate in unit chart reviews and performance improvement meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Current New York State Registered Nurse Licensure
- Three (3) years experience in medical/surgical area or equivalent as the Registered Nurse
- Experience in a related rehabilitative setting, such as physical rehab, TBI rehab unit, community nursing etc
- Knowledge of alcoholism and chemical dependency sufficient to understand the underlying principles and how it relates to the rehabilitative treatment setting
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire date
- Appreciable physical effort capability including lifting, reaching, and stooping
- Ability to be on feet much of the time
- Category I exposure tolerance (blood, body fluids, or tissues)
Desired Qualifications
- BSN
- Three (3) years experience in medical/surgical area or equivalent as the Registered Nurse is required to work in an area without other nursing personnel for reference
- Prefer psychiatric or chemical dependence assessment experience/training
- CASAC
- Some training or background in counseling skills
- Experience in a behavioral health setting with good understanding of chemical dependency
- Experience in a related rehabilitative setting, such as physical rehab, TBI rehab unit, community nursing etc, where educational counseling, and supportive interaction is stressed
