Job Summary
Assistant Manager at Potbelly serves as co-leader of the shop, cultivating a welcoming, high-energy environment and coordinating team performance. Responsibilities include training, coaching, and developing associates and shift leaders; interviewing and hiring; scheduling to meet labor goals; maintaining Good Vibes culture; driving local shop promotions and recruiting efforts; cash handling and daily operational controls; ensuring health, safety, and food safety standards (Illinois requires certification within 30 days; other states via ServSafe/Prometric/NRFSP); addressing customer issues; and supporting cost control and P&L management. The role requires strong customer-service orientation, effective communication, problem-solving, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced setting. Open availability is preferred; position involves standing for long periods and physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds. Minimum 2 years of management experience in food retail or restaurant environments is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of at least 2 years management experience in a restaurant or retail environment preferred
- Food Safety Certification (ServSafe or equivalent) required by Illinois law or similar certification required in other states
- Ability to train, coach and develop staff; interview and hire associates and shift leaders
- Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Open availability preferred
- Ability to stand/walk 8-9 hours; long shifts; ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
