Job Summary
Potbelly is seeking an Assistant Manager to co-lead the shop and foster a welcoming, high-energy environment. The role emphasizes training, coaching, and developing team members; interviewing and hiring staff; scheduling to meet labor goals; driving local shop marketing and promotions; ensuring health and safety standards; managing costs and profitability (P&L oversight); and maintaining a Good Vibes culture to attract and retain employees while delivering great customer experiences. The role requires strong customer-service orientation, communication skills, problem-solving, and the ability to lead in a fast-paced kitchen and dining area. Illinois-specific food-safety certification is required within 30 days of employment, with standard expectations for shift leadership, labor management, and schedule planning.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of at least 2 years management experience in either a restaurant or retail environment preferred
- Food Safety Certification within 30 days of employment (Illinois) or applicable state certification
- Ability to stand/walk for 8-9 hours or as needed; lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask; ability to write effective schedules and maintain labor goals
- Strong interviewing skills and ability to hire, coach, and develop staff
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and manage deadlines
- Open availability preferred
