Job Summary
Assistant Manager - Mechanical Design Engineer role focusing on leading mechanical design for material handling systems. Responsibilities include translating as-sold functionality into working mechanical designs within budget, leading GA/installation/detail drawings, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, preparing RFQs and technical compliance sheets, and supporting sales with engineering input. Key skills include AutoCAD, Solid Edge, Navisworks, (Revit preferred), system layout, MEL/BOM, vendor/customer coordination, site installation support, clash resolution, and travel to project sites.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering discipline from an accredited college or University
- Minimum 5-8 years' experience of Material handling system design
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Solid Edge, Navisworks; Revit is a plus
- Good project coordination skills; planning, organizing, prioritizing
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites
- Experience in design of automated machines and material handling capital equipment (preferred)
- Lead and coordinate design activities: GA drawings, installation drawings, detail design, production design
- Experience in system layout, master equipment list (MEL/BOM)
- Understanding of technical tender documents and preparation of technical compliance sheets
- Preparation of RFQ/data sheets for mechanical equipment with vendors/customers
- Ability to translate as-sold functionality into working mechanical design within budget
- Engineering of mechanical interfaces with customers and subcontractors
- Participation in scope clarification, project planning, scheduling, coordination
- Preparation of system concept steel design and coordination with structural team
- Site surveys and report preparation
- Assist sales in proposals/compliance matrix with engineering input
- Evaluate manufacturing feasibility and cost estimates for material handling systems
- Lead a team for installation drawings/documents and field instructions
- Prepare installation documentation and coordinate with site team
- Prepare clash reports using Navisworks and resolve clashes
- Prepare system concept layout and MEL/BOM
