Job Summary
Assistant Legal Counsel II for the Buffalo Board of Education provides intermediate-level legal services in state and federal education law, special education, labor and employment law, municipal and general corporate law, and represents the School District in federal and state courts and administrative proceedings. Duties include developing and interpreting district policy, drafting and researching legal documents, advising administrators and board officials, supervising attorneys when assigned, and providing training on legal implications of education-related issues.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a Law School of recognized standing
- Three years of full-time experience as a practicing attorney (including oral and written arbitration; legal defense work; legal research; legal writing)
- Admission to the New York State Bar and good standing
- Admission to the U.S. District Court bar and maintenance during employment
- Biannual New York State continuing legal education requirement during employment
- Police background check and DCJS fingerprinting process
