Job Summary
Perform phlebotomy functions including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks on babies using correct technique. Identify patients by checking armbands and label specimen tubes with draw details. Determine STAT draw priorities, drawing severe trauma cases immediately and transporting specimens to the lab within 15 minutes. Register patients in the computer system, verify information accuracy, and perform error-free order entry. Assist coworkers with morning rounds and communicate with laboratory departments to ensure orderly workflow. Help train new employees and student interns on departmental procedures. Follow all organizational policies, safety training, and exposure control plans while maintaining a clean work area. Accept changes in assignment and perform work of equal or higher skill as needed. Demonstrate respect for patients and employees, maintain confidentiality, and present a professional appearance.
Required Qualifications
- Equivalent of four years of high school education
- One to six months phlebotomy experience
- Current California CPT I or CPT II License
- Current Basic Life Support Certification
- Current MAB
Desired Qualifications
- At least one year acute care hospital experience
