Job Summary

Conduct day-to-day cultivation, care, and maintenance of plant life, including planting, weeding, pruning, irrigation management, and pest control under the guidance of a head horticulturist. Prepare garden sites using hand tools or machines, and assist with planting flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns. Maintain plant health through watering, fertilizing, and shearing while scouting for pests and diseases to report recommended cultural controls. Adjust greenhouse mist irrigation, shade, and ventilation systems, and perform minor maintenance on cultivation equipment. Keep records of plant materials and supplies, provide training to student employees and campus volunteers, and give guided tours and presentations at special events. Requires a horticulture certification or equivalent experience; hourly compensation is $17.96.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved certification in horticulture, botany or plant-based sciences field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
