Job Summary
Coordinate the interscholastic athletic programs, including planning, scheduling, discipline, and tournament organization. Teach sport activities to individual or groups, explain apparatus use, and demonstrate techniques to achieve proficiency. Observe students during practice to detect and correct mistakes while maintaining appropriate supervision for safety. Monitor athletic budgets, order equipment, manage inventory, and coordinate facility usage for special events. Enforce state and district eligibility requirements, safety rules, and the Code of Student Conduct. Arrange transportation for athletic events, conduct press conferences, and establish policies for awards programs. Plan banquets and maintain cooperative relationships with local recreation organizations and colleges.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Eligibility for a Florida Coaching Certificate
- Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening
- Skill in organization, leadership and communication
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, students, teachers, administrators and peers
- Ability to use current technology to maintain records and obtain data
- Ability to encourage and facilitate professional growth of students
- Skill in personnel management, interaction, supervision techniques, coaching, evaluation procedures and conflict resolution
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness
- Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe environment
- Ability to read and interpret applicable laws, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of current student assessment and accountability instruments
- Knowledge of the sport in the field assigned
- Desire to be a team player
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects
- May be required to restrain a physically active individual as a temporary safety measure
Desired Qualifications
- Previous successful experience as a coach preferred
