Job Summary
Motivate athletes, plan training sessions, and communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and the community. Develop and train AA student-athletes while organizing practice schedules and preparing for matches. Conduct daily instruction in school settings including gyms and recreational areas, requiring frequent walking, standing, and light lifting. Travel regularly with student-athletes to and from matches. Maintain positive relations with coaches, administrators, and the media. Perform duties from July through November, potentially extending into indoor/outdoor track season. After school and weekend hours are required. Previous coaching experience is required, with a preference for candidates holding or eligible for a Virginia teaching license.
Required Qualifications
- knowledge of VHSL rules and regulations
- ability to develop and train AA student-athletes
- personal skills that reflect positive relations with high school student-athletes, parents and the community
- extensive knowledge of the principles of individual and team fundamentals of the listed sports
- ability to organize and prepare practice schedules
- ability to develop a solid discipline that emphasizes team work and good sportsmanship
- Previous coaching experience
- ability to motivate athletes
- ability to help plan training sessions
- ability to communicate effectively with athletes and parents
- ability to travel with student-athletes to and from matches
- ability to perform frequent walking, standing, light lifting and other physical activities
- ability to provide daily personal and close contact with student-athletes to provide instruction
- ability to have regular contact with other coaches, administrators, parents and the media
- ability to work after school and weekend hours
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience as a runner
- Previous experience as an assistant coach
- Cross country coaching/running experience
- hold or are eligible for a Virginia teaching license
