Job Summary
Coach individual participants in sport skills, plan and schedule regular practice programs, and supervise student athletes during all school-sanctioned practices and events. Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior, oversee facility safety conditions, and work with transportation staff to ensure safe student travel. Maintain attendance forms, insurance records, and necessary paperwork while recommending equipment purchases. Adhere to state and federal laws, attend required professional development, and communicate effectively with administrators, parents, and the community. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions with hours that vary within the athletic season.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Athletic Coach Endorsement
- Completion of Child Abuse Reporting Training
- CPR and first aid certified
- Able to communicate effectively via a telephone and email in a clear, precise manner
- Able to write and record reports utilizing basic computer functions
- Able to climb stairs or stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Able to sit, reach, carry, push, bend body at waist, bend both knees, twist, and stoop while handling items
- Able to read and interpret policies, procedures and employee handbook
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques
- Able to hear and speak in order to communicate with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors
- Primary work setting is the Assigned Attendance Center with travel to competitor Attendance Centers
- Will be required to ride a school bus or drive school vehicles to carry out responsibilities of the position
- Required to work outdoors for periods of time if necessary for sport or training
- Daily and weekly work hours will vary within season
Desired Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience preferred
