Job Summary
Assist the General Manager in planning, leading, and managing a large site consistent with Smithfield policies, federal, state, and local laws. Establish achievable goals for yields, labor, and expenses; track progress and implement solutions to ensure operations function within cost and budget targets. Ensure efficient, profitable operations by conforming to specifications and procedures while managing plant labor, raw materials, supplies, and waste. Train, manage, and direct all support staff activities including HR, safety, food safety, accounting, maintenance, and production supervision. Directly supervise managers and hourly employees through interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution. Maintain accurate communication across all employee levels and delegate tasks in the absence of the General Manager. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or Business with 8+ years in plant management and 2+ years in leadership. Must work nights and weekends, travel 10%, and possess knowledge of OSHA, USDA, and Food Safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Agriculture, Animal Science, Business or related field
- 8+ years' experience in plant management
- Minimum of 2+ years' experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management
- Manufacturing knowledge and understanding of yields, plant efficiencies, and operations procedures
- Solid understanding of OSHA, USDA and Food Safety regulations
- Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft software (Excel and Word)
- Ability to work with, and lead, a diverse workforce
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and verbal formats
- High level of organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability
- Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills
- Must be able to travel 10% of the time
- Must be able to work nights & weekends
