Assistant General Counsel - Transmission

Job Summary
The Assistant General Counsel – Transmission will support AMP’s Transmission, LLC (AMPT) on acquisitions of existing transmission assets by drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements and related interconnection and O&M agreements, and presenting to city councils and open houses on projects. The role involves supporting FERC-accepted rate updates and state regulatory processes, ensuring compliance with FERC, NERC and RTO tariffs, rules, and regulations, providing in-person legal support at city council meetings/open houses as needed, coordinating with outside counsel on state regulatory requirements, advising on transmission budget and revenue requirements, and contributing to a fast-paced, high-volume environment with strong business and legal judgement. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work environment (remote + in-office) with supervision approval, and is located in Columbus, OH.
Required Qualifications
- Admitted to the practice of law in Ohio (admission in Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia or West Virginia is helpful but not required)
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in transmission rate setting
- Knowledge of transmission cost allocation, and generation interconnection philosophies, rules and processes
- Ability to forge strong working relationships, build consensus, and function well in a team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Willingness to travel
- Experience with PJM transmission expansion processes
- Experience with NERC requirements regarding transmission ownership and operations (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of the utility industry including regulatory and operational risks
- Knowledge of and experience in compliance and regulatory matters, including FERC Standards of Conduct and market abuse regulations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects with attention to detail and be a self-starter
