Assistant General Counsel, ERISA and Employee Benefits

Job Summary

Provide proactive and strategic legal advice on U.S. and global employee benefits programs, including executive compensation, health and welfare plans, and defined contribution retirement savings. Counsel internal HR clients on applicable legal, tax, and regulatory considerations regarding the design, administration, and modification of benefit programs while assessing litigation risks. Conduct legal and factual research to support advisory materials and prepare summaries, presentations, and other documentation for senior business leaders and the HR Global Total Rewards team. Oversee outside counsel work and billing, and actively lead or support corporate initiatives. Maintain high-level expertise in ERISA, tax law, and industry trends to address complex compliance issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Law degree (JD)
  • Active bar membership
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant law firm, industry or government agency experience
  • Deep expertise and experience with ERISA, U.S. tax and employee benefits law advice, including ERISA fiduciary issues, and executive non-qualified deferred compensation

  • Experience with non-U.S. benefit plans and supporting public policy | government affairs
