Job Summary
Organize and coordinate all aspects of the assigned athletic program, including duties for assistant coaches and volunteers, while performing coaching responsibilities for one or more designated teams. Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions to improve athlete skills, instruct performance techniques during practices and contests, and supervise athletes during travel and related activities. Monitor expenditures, manage equipment inventories, and communicate program information to parents and media. Consult with the Athletic Director on program issues, enforce team discipline, and maintain accurate records. Work in various indoor and outdoor locations with considerable physical activity, potentially requiring evening and weekend hours.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age 18 years
- Background and Criminal History Clearance
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching and Oregon State Component Certification (High School only)
- Demonstrates high level of communication skills and meets District standards for oral and written language proficiency in English, and if applicable, in Spanish or Russian
- Skill in leadership and facilitation, including problem solving and conflict resolution
- Excellent organizational skills for effectively managing multiple tasks
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of rules and coaching strategies for assigned sport
- Communicates effectively in English in both oral and written form
- Communicates effectively in Spanish or Russian (if assigned) in both oral and written form
- Demonstrates support for District Core Values, District Mission, District Strategic Plan, and Schoolwide Improvement Plan
- Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments
- Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities
- Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and District policy and regulations
- Maintains the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague, or district patron
- Follows all laws, District policies, rules, regulations, memos, announcements, and reasonable requests by proper authority
- Adheres to the same ethical standards as outlined in Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) Standards for Competent and Ethical Educators
- Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules
- The employee is expected to be dressed and groomed in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting
- This position requires considerable physical activity and stamina
- This position may involve evening and weekend work depending on practice and contest schedules
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids due to student or employee illness or injury
- Required to obtain a First Aid and/or CPR Card and serve as a Delegated Caregiver or Designated First Aid Provider
