Job Summary
Assistant Editor for BBC Wales News (Nations and Regions, Wales) in Cardiff to lead Wales Today's editorial direction: commissioning stories, overseeing the 1830 programme, and coordinating with reporters to craft outputs. Responsibilities include commissioning and planning stories, managing daily output, editing the 1830 programme, and team management (rotas, training, conversations). Requires experience in fast-paced news decision-making, producing live TV news, strong organizational skills, and ability to lead teams and foster an inclusive, collaborative environment with deep knowledge of Welsh audiences and Welsh affairs. The role supports flexible working discussions at offer stage and is a fixed-term contract until 01/12/2026 with a salary range of £52,300 - £62,000 per annum.
Required Qualifications
- Experience of editorial decision-making in a fast-paced news environment
- Experience of producing live television news
- Very strong organisational skills and the ability to communicate complex plans to teams in a meaningful way
- Experience of leading teams, setting clear expectations about required performance and generating an inclusive and collaborative working environment
- Detailed knowledge of Welsh audiences and welsh affairs
