Job Summary
Maintain a developmentally appropriate classroom setting for Head Start preschoolers by creating weekly lesson plans, conducting daily health checks, and assessing children's progress toward school readiness goals. Supervise and monitor children at all times while implementing curriculum that addresses social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development, including meals, choice time, and motor activities. Develop individual goals for each child, document behavior, and facilitate transitions to Pre-K or Kindergarten through ongoing assessments and parent conferences. Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, state laws regarding mandatory reporting, and organizational policies while maintaining accurate records in Child Plus and COR. Use home visits and parent observations to support families, assist with I.E.P. implementation, and participate in annual program self-assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a CDA (Child Development Associate), TCC, ECE Diploma, state awarded certification or related area
- Significant experience and alternative training in early childcare and development may be considered in lieu of degree
- Possess and demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and other regulations
- Must be willing to relocate to another center within the program whenever needed
- Must have own reliable transportation to travel to and from one of the centers located in Taylor, Macon, Dooly, Peach, and Crisp counties
- Must be punctual and able to work Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p. m.
- Must be able to work indoors as well as transition the classroom to outdoors
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases
- Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
- Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds overhead and 40 pounds from waist to shoulder
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant and color visions, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must successfully pass a drug screening and background check
Desired Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Infant & Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related area
- Have knowledge and experience in the philosophy and practices of Head Start (or comparable child development programs), early childhood education, developmentally appropriate practice, and bilingual education
- Experience of working with children birth to five years of age
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications
- Maintain an annual physical and Tuberculosis vaccination
- Good communication skills, flexibility and teamwork
