Job Summary
Assistant Director, Portfolio Management at the National Wealth Fund. Hybrid role based in Leeds requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in-office. Lead monitoring of projects, engage with sponsors and fund managers to mitigate risk, drive value, and ensure mission alignment. Build and interrogate financial models, perform valuation assessments using DCF and market comparables, and analyse qualitative and quantitative information to assess operational and financial risks. Represent NWF as a board observer where appropriate and contribute to governance, strategic direction, and risk management of portfolio companies, including input into exit strategy. Attend site visits, coordinate documentation, test covenant compliance, and review future financial projections to keep deals financially sound and aligned with objectives. Contribute to reports for Investment and Credit Committees, and participate in designing and implementing the Fund’s Portfolio Management system. Required Qualifications
- Established portfolio management skills in an investment context
- Strong financial modelling and valuation skills (DCF, market comparables)
- Experience analyzing complex capital structures and investment scenarios
- Exposure to early-stage or growth-stage companies is advantageous
- External counter-party management skills
- Ability to represent the Fund with clients, banks and legal firms
- Knowledge of equity, loans, and guarantees instruments
- Attention to governance, risk management, and exit strategy considerations
