Job Summary
Assistant Director of Special Services in Westbrook, ME for the 2026-27 school year leads program development and evaluation, personnel management and supervision, and professional development of staff. Works closely with special services administrators, providers, and district/building leaders to ensure equitable and adequate educational opportunities for students, including those from diverse and high-need backgrounds. Responsibilities include coordination with special education teachers, providers, and support staff; advocacy for students; oversight of specific programs and out-of-district placements; resource management; collaboration with families and community organizations; ensuring accuracy and compliance of program documents and records; and fostering an inclusive work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Valid Maine Assistant Administrator of Special Education certification (035) or the ability to obtain it.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in special education, including leadership roles, with strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience working with high-needs student populations, showing a strong commitment to equity.
