Job Summary
Assistant Director of Special Programs leads and guides the compliant implementation of special education programs district-wide. Responsibilities include coaching, training, and providing technical support to improve outcomes for students receiving special education services; develop and administer programs aligned with district goals; evaluate and improve programs using data-based decision-making; ensure least restrictive environment and MTSS practices; collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and related services staff; coordinate with MTSS and build principals on compliance and district initiatives; supervise department staff; support professional development and Peer to-Peer/LINK programs; ensure adherence to state and federal rules; manage budget for special programs; maintain confidentiality and promote stakeholder engagement; stay current with laws and regulations pertaining to special education; maintain positive relationships with staff, students, and parents; perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in special education, educational leadership, early childhood, or a related field, required.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in at least one area of special education or a valid special education licensure or certification
- At least five years of experience in special education programs/services.
- Michigan approval as a Director of Special Education, or eligible for the State of Michigan approval or temporary approval as Director of Special Education pursuant to MARSE Rule 340.1771.
