Assistant Director of Financial Aid Systems and Compliance

Job Summary
Oversee all aspects of financial aid operations and processing to ensure University compliance with federal, state, institutional, and private regulations. Direct the Processing Unit by planning activities, setting policy, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress across Student Eligibility, Pell/Loan, Special Programs, and Veteran benefits. Develop annual cost-of-attendance parameters, manage the SAIG Secondary Destination Point System, and collaborate with Finance, Business, and Admission Offices for awarding and disbursement. Lead a team of professional staff, coordinate training, and conduct annual OMB A-133 audits and external reviews. Create internal publications, respond to complex student aid situations, and support strategic enrollment management initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
- 3 years or more of professional experience working in financial aid processing, awarding and delivery of scholarships
- 1 of those years in a supervisory capacity
- Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance
- Must have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis
- Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate skills in MS Office and Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Must have experience with virtual platforms such as Zoom
- Must have experience in Slate CRM and Banner software
- Must have proficiency in ad hoc query and reporting tools
- Must be able to travel
- Must be able to work extended hours or weekends during peak times and for special programs, projects, and events
- Must be able to engage evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have strong public relations and customer service skills
- Must have the ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times
- Must have the ability to work effectively with communities across the university

Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Experience in Slate CRM and Banner software
- Proficiency in ad hoc query and reporting tools
- Understanding of the St. Mary's culture and ability to represent and communicate the university mission to prospective students and families
- Bilingual (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals)
