Job Summary
Oversee daily financial operations of the school district, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and year-end closing. Support the Director in preparing schedules, reports, and documentation for the annual audit while ensuring timely submission of financial information to the SC Department of Education. Provide financial guidance to principals, department heads, and bookkeepers, and assist with tracking fixed assets and reconciling district accounts. Monitor internal control procedures and resolve issues impacting the district's financial standing. Serves as backup to the Director and Chief Financial Officer during absences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
- at least five years of accounting/finance experience
- an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with governmental fund accounting
- preference for school district experience
- Working knowledge of financial statements and their components
- Working knowledge of budgeting and accounting processes
- Working knowledge of business software applications including spreadsheets, word processing, and databases
- SC Certified School Business Official
- Personal computer experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
- Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to sometimes push/pull items such as furniture or boxes of materials
- Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field
- Ability to work irregular or extended hours
- 12 months employment term
- full time employment during the school year
