Assistant Director of Athletics and Head Basketball Coach

Job Summary
Teach two sections of Physical Education and Wellness classes while serving as Head Boys Basketball Coach with year-round and after-school responsibilities. Assist the athletic director with AAA eligibility, communication, social media, transportation scheduling, event coordination, and supervision. Collaborate with faculty to support student socioemotional and academic development, participate in program meetings, and facilitate two-week-long interdisciplinary Intensives. Present learning to the community and provide candid feedback to students. Requires Arkansas Teaching Certification, basketball coaching experience, and ability to stand, walk, run, or cycle on varying trails. Evening and weekend travel for practices and races is mandatory, with some outdoor work in changing weather.
Required Qualifications
- Experience teaching Physical Education and Wellness at the appropriate grade levels
- Coaching experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Experience partnering with other educators to create interdisciplinary learning experiences for students
- Ability to communicate high expectations and standards for student learning and well-being
- Understanding of and sensitivity to adolescent challenges
- Ability to think broadly and creatively about student-centered learning
- Commitment to providing candid and constructive feedback to students
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to scope and sequence student learning experiences in collaboration with other faculty
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Arkansas Teaching Certification
- Standing, walking, running, cycling on varying difficulty level trails and terrain
- Handling objects with hands
- Team practices and travel to team races in the evenings and on weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Coaching experience, preferably in basketball
- Some work is performed outside and may require exposure to changing weather conditions
