Job Summary
Manage the daily operation of the HIM Coding department, overseeing inpatient and outpatient coding activities, health record documentation analysis, CDI, scanning, and appeal management programs. Establish positive relationships with patients, visitors, and staff while contributing to performance and quality improvement activities through data collection, risk management compliance, and Continuous Quality Improvement team participation. Create work assignments, set performance standards, and train personnel on department policies and procedures. Monitor cancer registry programs, conduct audits of outpatient coding units, and track denial trends to improve revenue cycle activities. Prepare reports, recommendations, and operation manuals for senior leadership while coordinating work between HIM and CDI departments. Provide weekly in-services and represent the department at internal and external meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive medical records management experience performing a variety of coding, including billing, denials and medical clerical functions in hospital based HIM environment
- Proficiency in office procedures
- Registered Health Information Administration
- Registered Health Information Technician
- Bachelor's
- Master's
- Demonstrated technical, interpersonal, and management skills
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CPT-4 Coding
- Working knowledge of HIPAA Regulations
- Computer Literate
