Job Summary
Coordinate and control the issuance of building and trade permits for residential, commercial, renovation, and new construction projects. Review construction plans and documents for ordinance and code compliance, interpreting and applying the International Building Code, Electric Code, and Plumbing Code. Supervise other employees and provide customer service to the building community while preparing correspondence. Evaluate construction values and ensure permit issuance follows set procedures. Requires ICC Certification as a Certified Building Official and State Plumbing Inspectors' License. Starting salary is $112,378 annually.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Ten (10) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Construction industry experience
- Previous experience as an inspector with a municipality
- ICC Certification as a Certified Building Official or must obtain such certification within one year of date of hire
- State Plumbing Inspectors' License or must obtain within one year of date of hire
- Code Enforcement Officer Registration preferred or must obtain registration within one year of date of hire
- Knowledge of International Building Code
- Knowledge of City Codes
- Knowledge of Code Enforcement rules
- Skill in interpreting and applying building and housing codes when meeting with contractors
- Skill in coordination of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural work
- Ability to evaluate construction values
- Ability to provide the highest level of customer service to the building community and prepare correspondence
- Ability to coordinate the issuance of building permits in accordance with set procedures
