Assistant Director - Benefits Administration

Job Summary

Plan, implement, and administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, and retirement plans while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations such as ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA. Manage day-to-day operations for enrollment, eligibility, life event changes, and terminations, and coordinate annual open enrollment activities with system testing and employee communications. Review FLSA change reports, reconcile benefits invoices, and manage relationships with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and vendors. Respond to complex employee inquiries, monitor legislative changes, support audits, and recommend improvements to benefits offerings. Assist in evaluating new benefits and preparing required filings.

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of employee benefits administration principles
  • Knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulatory requirements
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports for leadership
  • Excellent customer service and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits administration
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws and regulations
  • Experience administering health and welfare plans and retirement programs
  • Proficient with Workday
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred
  • Professional certification such as CEBS, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or CBP
  • Experience with higher education or multi-site organizations
  • Experience managing benefits vendors
