Job Summary
Edit Guardian US homepage and related live blogs, ensure Guardian style and high-quality presentation of homepages and featured stories, and manage distribution across platforms. Responsibilities include sending breaking news alerts (Apple News and newsletters), coordinating with third-party partners, overseeing live blogs, using analytics to inform homepage content decisions, and collaborating with editorial and audience teams to optimize reader engagement. Requires 3-5 years of homepage/editorial editing experience, strong writing and news judgment, live newsroom experience, proficiency with CMSs and analytics tools (Google Analytics, Chartbeat), and ability to work in a hybrid remote/in-person setup in New York or Washington DC.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years’ experience editing homepages and articles in a national or international news organization
- excellent writing skills and news judgment
- proven track record analyzing audience trends and communicating insights to journalists
- significant experience in a live newsroom
- strong understanding of digital tools and content management systems (CMS)
- knowledge of analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Chartbeat) and digital audience measurements
- deep understanding of digital journalism trends, internet culture, and distribution strategies
- firm grasp of Guardian's brand and editorial identity
- ability to unpack a story’s performance and offer actionable recommendations
- strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in both remote and in-person team environments
