Assistant Designer –Lead Designer Automation / Instrumentation

Automation Technologist/Engineer supports automation and instrumentation design by delivering and reviewing key technical documents such as loop diagrams, P&IDs, and control narratives, while ensuring compliance with industry standards. Responsible for quality checks and design guidance for 2D/3D CADD drafting, instrument loop diagrams, control system cabinet designs, wiring layouts; participates in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and ensures compliance with safety and engineering standards; develops installation details, instrument layouts, fire & gas detection plans; executes instrument engineering tasks including selection, specification, sizing calculations; creates SPI deliverables (instrument index, I/O lists, assignments, alarm rationalization); develops P&IDs, auxiliary diagrams, instrument data sheets; generates material requisitions and conducts technical bid evaluations; prepares control narratives and cause & effect diagrams for system functionality and safety logic; coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, manages tasks, supports field activities, and ensures delivery within schedule and budget. About you Degree or Diploma in Instrumentation/Control Systems; 1-12 years in instrumentation design/engineering in Oil & Gas; expertise with SPI; knowledge of 2D/3D design; understanding of API/ASME/CSA/ISA codes; asset considerations for Alberta Oil Sands; registration eligibility with ASET or APEGA would be an asset; remote work opportunities outside of country; relocation assistance.
