Job Summary
Assistant Department Manager (Wood) supports training and development of Product Sales Specialists, ensures high-quality customer service, oversees merchandising, pricing, and certification efforts, and leads department operations including POS transactions, inventory communication, and customer engagement in a fast-paced retail environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1 year of customer service/sales experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Industrial Truck (forklift) proficiency testing and certification
- Demonstrate ability to drive and teach company philosophy around basic P’s of retail (People, Position, Product, Presentation, Price, Promotion, Purchasing)
- Complete all product specialist certification courses
- Greet every customer in a helpful and courteous manner
- Process customers at check-out using POS system
- Answer telephone according to guidelines
- Stock and tag merchandise displays
- Create price tags and merchandise signs
- Follow cash, check and charge card acceptance procedures
- Present ‘how-to’ classes to customers
- Communicate SOP direction to associates
- Explain inventory needs to management
- Complete merchandising, pricing and organization of the department
- Validate product placement and pricing
