Job Summary
Assistant academic staff role at Ghent University focusing on data analysis and mathematical modelling in Bioscience Engineering. Responsibilities include spending at least 50% of assignment on academic research toward a doctoral dissertation in Bioscience Engineering: Mathematical Modelling across multiple research themes (including Mendelian randomization, spatial/single-cell omics, graph-based multiscale dynamical systems for urban water, CFD-integrated modelling, trustworthy AI for bioinformatics, wildlife and ecological modelling, and Bayesian methods). Teaching activities at bachelor’s and master’s level in mathematics (e.g., Analysis: functions of several variables; Probabilistic models), assisting internal and external department services, with a two-year appointment that may be renewed twice; start date 1 October 2026; salary scale AAP3. The candidate should hold a relevant master's degree and have strong Dutch and English teaching/communication skills; diplomas from outside the EU require NARIC equivalence. The role is based in Ghent, Belgium, within the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Department BW26 – Data analysis and mathematical modelling, and involves involvement in academic research and teaching activities with opportunities for project-based work and professional development.
