Job Summary
Assistant Counsel within the City of New York’s Office of General Counsel supporting the Office of Labor Relations portfolio. Key duties include representing the City in arbitration proceedings under collective bargaining agreements and improper practice claims before the Office of Collective Bargaining (OCB); researching, drafting and editing legal documents such as briefs, MOUs, contracts, and side letters; reviewing agency communications; gaining command of the collective bargaining law and the unions the agency engages with; preparing briefing documents for decisionmakers and non-attorneys; handling FOIL assignments under supervision; helping develop contract templates and guidance for the agency’s programs; liaising with the Law Department on litigation/discovery; and developing processes for efficient management of the legal team’s workstreams. The role will involve collaboration with a team of approximately 15 legal and procurement professionals and focuses on labor relations, compliance, and employee benefits and healthcare. The successful candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and capable of working both collaboratively and independently to meet deadlines. S/he should be solution-oriented with good judgment, patience, and a collegial approach to integration within OGC’s team.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an American Bar Association approved law school
