Job Summary

Review insurance coverage requests and negotiate defense assumptions with carriers. Evaluate representation requests from City employees and contractors, ensuring timely preparation and filing of responsive pleadings. Analyze cases for settlement potential, interview involved parties, and lead negotiations with the Comptroller's Office. Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and develop early case strategies across the Insurance Takeover, Pleadings, and Settlement groups. Manage a high-volume, deadline-driven caseload requiring independent oversight of civil tort actions.

Required Qualifications

  • one year of civil litigation experience after graduating from an ABA-accredited law school
  • admitted and in good standing with the New York State Bar
  • strong civil litigation experience, including trial or settlement work
  • the ability to independently manage a high volume, deadline driven caseload with accuracy and attention to detail
  • excellent legal writing, interviewing, and analytical skills
  • sound judgment in assessing complex and sensitive matters
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
