Job Summary
Assistant Corporation Counsel in the New York City Law Department, primarily assigned to Tort Division (Pre-Trial Unit or SLED) with potential placement in other divisions. Responsibilities include drafting briefs, pleadings, and motions; conducting legal research; taking depositions; interviewing witnesses; drafting contracts and legislation; making court and administrative agency appearances; and supporting pre-trial and trial work as needed. Candidates may be placed in any division based on department needs and may work in offices located in any of the five NYC boroughs. The department emphasizes public service, justice, teamwork, inclusion, and respect, and seeks candidates who bring diverse perspectives. Applicants should have demonstrated experience in moot court, trial advocacy, debate, public speaking, or litigation/mediation clinics or internships.
Required Qualifications
- Graduated from an ABA-approved law school in December 2025 or in 2026
- Must sit for the first available administration of the Uniform Bar Exam, New York Law Exam, and Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam following graduation or have passed these exams during law school
- Experience in moot court, trial advocacy, debate, public speaking, or litigation/mediation clinics or internships
