Job Summary

Prepare and distribute food service items for students and school personnel while maintaining facilities in sanitary condition. Clean utensils, equipment, and storage areas; inspect received food and supplies for quality and compliance with health requirements. Maintain inventories of food service items and equipment, procuring supplies to complete jobs efficiently within budget guidelines. Direct food service workers and other personnel as assigned to maximize workforce efficiency and meet shift requirements. Respond to inquiries from students, staff, and the public regarding meal types and costs. Serve one or more food items as requested. Maintain regular attendance and drive a district van to transport food items to other locations. This 8-hour/day position at Parkdale Elementary School supports the Hood River County School District's nutrition services.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Oregon Food Handler's certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to drive a district van and transport food items to other district locations
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of this position
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively by interacting with colleagues, community members, students and parents in a respectful and trustworthy manner
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to make sound independent decisions

  • Knowledge of food safety practices and standards

  • Ability to prepare documentation for written support
  • Ability to respond to inquiries of students, staff and the public regarding type and/or cost of meals

  • Ability to stock food, condiments and supplies
  • Ability to procure equipment and supplies

  • Experience working in a school or commercial kitchen
