Job Summary
Assistant Cook – 6 Hour Position within Granger School District. Performs skilled cooking duties, food preparation, serving, dishwashing, and related kitchen tasks to support school nutrition programs. Responsibilities include preparing a variety of food items per state and federal guidelines, operating kitchen equipment, maintaining sanitary conditions, assisting with meal planning and daily records, coordinating with the head cook and Food Service General Manager, and ensuring proper food storage, rotation (FIFO), portion control, and service to students and staff. Requires ability to read, write, and comprehend English; a current food handler’s permit; at least one year of cooking experience; willingness to maintain district and state sanitation standards; and physical ability to lift 10-15 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally. The role operates on a 6-hour schedule (7:00 AM to 1:30 PM) during a 193-day term, with salary determined by policy and bargaining agreement. The employee wears district-provided uniform and appropriate footwear, and may operate a food van within the district; Washington state driver’s license required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current food handler’s permit
- One year experience in cooking
- Vocational or technical training in institutional cooking may substitute for required work experience
- Must be able to read, write, and perform mathematics for food production
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English language to effectively follow instructions, complete documentation, and communicate with team members and supervisors
- Successfully pass a criminal history check
