Job Summary
Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the organization’s financial operations. This role oversees day-to-day accounting functions, assists with financial reporting, ensures compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and helps maintain strong internal controls. The Assistant Controller plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial records and supporting strategic financial decision-making. Key responsibilities include preparing, reviewing, and consolidating monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; ensuring GAAP-based reporting; managing the general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and closing; supervising accounts payable; budgeting and forecasting; developing and evaluating budgets; investigating variances; designing and enforcing internal controls; coordinating with external auditors; supporting cross-functional collaboration and process improvements.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in commercial equipment rental, construction, industrial services, or asset-intensive environment
- 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience overseeing day-to-day accounting functions
- Experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Strong knowledge of general ledger management, account reconciliations, and close processes
- Experience with fixed asset accounting including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, asset tracking
- Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis within an operational business environment
- Liaison for external audits and internal control compliance
- ERP/accounting systems proficiency and advanced Excel skills
- CPA or CPA-eligible preferred
