Job Summary
The Morgan Library & Museum seeks an Assistant Controller in its Financial Services Department. The role supports day-to-day, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting in a nonprofit fund accounting environment, with emphasis on overseeing operating accounts. Responsibilities include preparing general ledger entries, participating in the annual audit, assisting with the monthly close schedule, and helping maintain and report on restricted funds, endowment, and investment balances. The ideal candidate will drive process improvements, implement and leverage new technology, and strengthen internal controls while collaborating with the Finance team and other departments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting
- A minimum of 8 years of experience with increasing scope and responsibility in an endowment-supported nonprofit organization
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit GAAP
- Experience with monthly close and financial reporting
- Experience supporting nonprofit audits
- Ability to supervise staff while remaining hands-on in accounting work
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Skill in financial analysis and reporting
- Strong computer skills, including advanced skill with Microsoft Office Excel
- Experience with accounting software, MIP Abila preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to allocate time efficiently
- Advanced report writing a plus
- Hands-on experience with investment journal entries, audits, and fund accounting
- Experience in public accounting a plus
