Job Summary
As the Assistant Controller / JIB Accountant, you will own and manage full-cycle Accounts Payable for upstream operations (high-volume processing, accuracy, and timeliness) and support/lead Joint Interest Billing (JIB) processes, including partner billings. You will review, code, and enter invoices tied to LOE, CAPEX, and field operations, code costs to properties, wells, and AFEs, reconcile vendor statements, and ensure proper cost allocation in collaboration with Operations, Land, and Engineering. You will assist with revenue distribution and partner-related accounting, support month-end close including accruals and reporting, and help identify process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. This role requires independence in a lean environment, strong attention to detail, and a proven track record of reliability and accountability. Proficiency in Excel and multiple accounting systems (e.g., Enertia, OGSYS, WolfePak, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) is valued, along with willingness to learn JIB accounting and contribute to ad hoc projects for the Controller.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within upstream oil & gas
- Strong background in Accounts Payable and cost coding (LOE, CAPEX, and well-level tracking)
- Exposure to or willingness to learn JIB accounting
- Solid understanding of month-end close processes
- Proficient in Excel and accounting systems (Enertia, OGSYS, WolfePak, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, or similar)
