Assistant Construction Manager - Capital Projects

Job Summary
Conduct regular, scheduled job site visits for capital projects to ensure adherence to agency, city, and state standards. Perform on-site assessments to transition operational projects into capital projects, verify compliance with approved proposals and contracts, and monitor safety procedures and quality control measures. Track project progress, including milestones, budgets, and timelines, while preparing comprehensive site visit reports and escalating issues to the Director, Capital Projects. Serve as the primary field liaison between the Capital Projects team, contractors, and stakeholders to offer guidance, troubleshoot challenges, and optimize contractor performance. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of local and state regulations and implement best practices from Superintendent and Field Project Management roles. This hybrid role requires climbing ladders, lifting, and traveling within the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in capital project management, including extensive field or superintendent roles
- Must be fluent in and understand construction documents and specifications and be able to confirm that construction contractors are performing appropriately
- Must have proven construction management skills in the renovation of residential properties with clients in occupancy. Group homes and midrise
- Flexibility to travel within the 5 boroughs of New York City and adapt to varying project environments is essential
- Climbing ladders as required, to evaluate facility equipment, conditions, roofs and ceilings etc
- Walking, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, and adequate vision, to accomplish the job requirements
- A valid driver's license must be maintained at all times during employment and is a mandatory requirement of the job
Desired Qualifications
- Prefer the successful completion of a course in construction management
- OSHA 30 or better
- Demonstrated familiarity and hands-on experience with Superintendent or Field Project Management responsibilities
- In-depth understanding of agency, city, and state regulations pertaining to capital projects
- Proven success in a nonprofit or community-focused organization
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook 365, Excel and Construction estimating and monitoring software, R.S. Means, etc
