Job Summary
The Assistant Coach position at St. Albans School involves working with high school and middle school athletic programs under the Head Program Coach. Responsibilities include teaching sport-specific skills, implementing practice and game strategies, monitoring locker rooms, and evaluating player performance. Ideal candidates should have relevant coaching or playing experience, strong communication skills, and an understanding of injury risks in sports. This part-time role requires commitment to practices and games throughout the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant Coaching or Playing Experience
- Consistent reliable attendance at practices and games
- Knowledge of sport-specific injury risks and ability to teach generally accepted and school-approved techniques that are designed to minimize injury risk
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude
- Ability to work and thrive in teams
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrable knowledge of the skills, tactics and strategies necessary for success in the specific sport one is coaching
- Ability to evaluate an individual player’s skills, identify areas of deficiency, and teach drills and techniques to improve deficiencies
- Ability to independently plan, organize, and coordinate multiple tasks
- Demonstrated strategic skills in short- and long-term planning, facilitation, and collaboration
- Ability to negotiate, mitigate conflict, and build alliances
- Experience managing people and teams to achieve desired results
- Creative, innovative, and strategic thinking ability
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills
- Ability to work efficiently and quickly under pressure
- Sensitivity for and understanding of academic disciplines and issues
