Job Summary
Assist in implementing a written team rules and philosophy; collaborate with Head Coach on policy implementation, equipment purchasing, and scheduling; ensure athletes meet academic eligibility per NMAA; develop safety plans and a hazard-free practice environment; manage rosters and reports; supervise travel rosters and itineraries; promote fair play and sportsmanship; uphold district, state, and NMAA policies; participate in ongoing professional development and engagement with clinics/workshops; perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor; operate and travel with team buses; maintain equipment inventories and adhere to safety and health guidelines; this is an extra-duty, supplemental contract position with at-will employment terms.
Required Qualifications
- Valid NM Athletic Coaching License
- Valid New Mexico Teaching License preferred
- All Athletic Coaches in K-8 settings MUST be at least 18 years of age, and ALL Athletic Coaches in 9-12 settings MUST be at least 21 years of age.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferred
- Good communication skills and customer service skills
- Understand and follow the proper administrative line of command and refer all requests or grievances through proper channels
- Has the ability to assist in organization and supervision of the total sports program
- The assistant coach must have knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and willingness to continue to learn and examine new ideas pertinent to the assigned sport
