Job Summary
Assistant Coach for Public Forum Debate needed to support Durham Academy's Speech & Debate program. Local to the Raleigh-Durham area, the candidate will assist in running Upper School Public Forum practices, coordinate after-school practice sessions, chaperone and judge at competitions on weekends, provide weekly office hours to prepare for local, regional, and national events, and deliver actionable feedback to help students refine performance. The role emphasizes helping students develop public speaking techniques (delivery, articulation, body language) through engaging practice activities, with a focus on building supportive relationships, innovative coaching approaches, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and student well-being. Responsibilities include facilitating practices, traveling to competitions, and fostering a student-centered learning environment; prefer candidate with debate experience and willingness to engage beyond classroom instruction.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in competitive debate as a competitor; while experience in coaching is preferred for this role, it is not a requirement for the position.
