Job Summary
Lead the football program by following the Head Coach, recruiting athletes, and implementing athletic policies while maintaining discipline and increasing morale. Provide daily training, safeguard participants, and monitor grades and conduct for every student athlete. Manage student managers, schedule events, coordinate with maintenance staff, and ensure facility cleanliness and equipment security. Submit injury paperwork within 24 hours and maintain public relations with media, parents, and the Booster Club. Report directly to the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and Principal. Requires previous successful high school football coaching experience and knowledge of Gaston County Schools' athletic policies.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of all the Athletic Policies approved by the Gaston County Schools' Board of Education.
- Knowledge of existing system, state, and conference regulations; implements them consistently and interprets them for staff.
- Ability and willingness to organize and assist with the supervision of the football program.
- Must have superior knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- Thorough understanding of the growth and development of students/athletes at the assigned school.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate required equipment and motor vehicles, use measuring devices, and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
- Must also possess the visual acuity to prepare data and statistics, work with figures, and records processes, operate a computer, and do extensive research and reading.
- If offered a position, the prospective employee must pass a required health exam, criminal records check, and drug test.
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferred.
- Previous successful coaching experience in football.
- Coaching experience in a public school system, is preferred.
