Assistant Coach - Football

Job Summary

Assist the head coach in developing, organizing, and implementing the football program while providing leadership to personnel and student athletes. Manage equipment inventory, recondition gear, and ensure all athletes have current physicals and adequate insurance coverage per JPPSS and LHSAA rules. Prepare the team for competition after school hours and work weekends or holidays as needed. Maintain security of electronic and print records, compile data for reports, and communicate with the athletic director, media, and parents. Adhere to all district, parish, and state regulations regarding rosters, schedules, and incidents. This role requires a valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate, a CDL Class B with P and S endorsement, and expertise in football fundamentals and athlete conditioning. The position involves standing, running, lifting heavy equipment, and working outdoors in extreme weather.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
  • CECP completion
  • current LHSAA requirements
  • CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions
  • requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component
  • Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator
  • requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook
  • Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic football fundamentals
  • Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for football
  • Certified through USA footballs Heads UP program
  • Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific

  • acquire thirty-six (36) Continuing Learning Units (CLUs) per year (July 1 through June 30)
  • Adhere to Parish and State requirements for promptly reporting rosters, schedules, scores, eligibility or documentation of incidents or injuries
  • Cooperate, communicate and work with the school based athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the principal and/or appropriate administrator
  • maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous playing experience in football preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level)
  • Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in football
  • Expertise, knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of football injuries
