Job Summary
Lead the boys' basketball program by following the Head Coach, recruiting athletes, and promoting the sport within and outside the school. Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and increase morale while providing training rules and safeguarding each participant. Attend all practices and games, direct student managers and statisticians, and assist with scheduling, transportation, and event preparation. Complete injury paperwork within 24 hours, coordinate with maintenance staff, and ensure locker room cleanliness and equipment security. Monitor student grades and conduct, and adhere to Gaston County Schools' athletic policies and state regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of all the Athletic Policies approved by the Gaston County Schools' Board of Education.
- Knowledge of existing system, state, and conference regulations; implements them consistently and interprets them for staff.
- Ability and willingness to organize and assist with the supervision of the basketball program.
- Must have superior knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- Thorough understanding of the growth and development of students/athletes at the assigned school.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate required equipment and motor vehicles, use measuring devices, and inspect work for accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to work standards and instructions.
- Must also possess the visual acuity to prepare data and statistics, work with figures, and records processes, operate a computer, and do extensive research and reading.
- Previous successful coaching experience in basketball.
- Must pass a required health exam, criminal records check, and drug test.
Desired Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferred.
- Coaching experience in a public school system, preferred.
